Seiko Pepsi Chronograph Reference 6139-6005 "Pogue" (1970s)
This is a fully restored, vintage, beautiful Seiko, automatic Chronograph reference 6139. The watch is in perfect running condition after restoration by ouer certified watchmaker. The 6139 Seiko automatic chronograph debuted in 1969. Dial choices were yellow, silver and blue and several variants of dial markings, bezel colors and bracelets during the model’s history were produced. Our watch comes with a perfectly preserved navy dial. The blue dial is in my opinion the most elegant version and contrasts beautifully with the red.
The reference 6139 is nicknamed "Pogue". NASA selected USAF pilot Colonel William Pogue in 1966 as one of the original astronauts for the aborted Apollo 19 mission, but transferred to the Skylab program. In 1973-1974 (the mission lasted over 84 days), Colonel Pogue went into space as a part of Skylab 4. As an astronaut he needed a chronograph and Speedmasters were not issued until very close to the mission launches and Pogue therefore bought a Seiko 6139-6002 with a yellow dial and, thus, the nickname for this historic chronograph. This was the first automatic chronograph in space it is said ti have performed flawlessly. technically, only the yellow dial should be called "Pogue', and ours is a blue dial and not exactly a pogue by the color of the dial but a close relative by the look, reference and movement of course.
Our watch is priced in the middle of the road. if you do a quick search of the reference 6139 you will find watches between 350$ and even 6000$. Most of the better preserved and accurately restored watches go around the 1000$ mark. We believe the watch is beautiful and beautifully restored and worth that amount. It will be a great companinion to whoever values a simple, solid, vintage, meaningful automatic chronometer. Be careful with the cheaper versions, restoration of these vintage beauties can be a complicated endeavor.
